You need to study the lesson on the twelve tribes at the sanctuary before you proceed.
Each son is a symbol in prophecy that always represents the same experience, just as the sea always represents people and a woman always represents the church. A prophetic message can be constructed by rearranging the sons in different configurations. Ezekiel has always been a confusing prophecy because this was never understood.
So let us look at one more prophecy about the twelve tribes, the temple and the city of God. Ezekiel describes a planned city that is not like any of the cities and temples of Israel. However it is not as grand as the city in Revelation and may simply be a model of that city. Ezekiel's city also includes Dan and he is excluded in Revelation 7: 4-8. Here are the differences.

The Sanctuary Is Restored. The purpose of the vision is for instruction in righteousness after the new covenant is established. It describes the temple on the beginning of the Day of Atonement. The great Day of Atonement began when the Lord's Goat was selected and killed. The curtain was ripped signifying that the temple was open. Later on this day, in 1844, the High Priest entered the temple to finish the ceremonies on this day. At the Second Coming, the scapegoat will be banished. The message about the restoration of the sanctuary after 1844 must include the lessons from Ezekiel.
Describe the temple to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure the pattern. And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the design of the temple and its arrangement, its exits and its entrances, its entire design and all its ordinances, all its forms and all its laws. Write it down in their sight, so that they may keep its whole design and all its ordinances, and perform them. (Ezekiel 43: 10-11)
Here are the important systems.

Amazingly, all these items in the sanctuary describe not only the religous works of God but the scientific laws and models of all creation including chemistry, particle physics, astrophysics, DNA and the brain.

City The Design And Pattern
There is a design for the temple, the city and the distribution of the land.

Law The Distribution Of The Land
In the lesson on the twelve tribes, we learned that the order of the camps of each tribe around the sanctuary represent the characteristics of the church and the suffering of Christ in His final week. But the order of Ezekiel is different.
The land was divided into thirteen equal parallel strips from east to west. Each tribe was given a strip of land beginning with Dan in the north and ending with Gad in the South. Near the middle of this portion is a thirteenth strip assigned to the prince. In the middle of the prince's portion is the holy portion which is a 25000 cubit square. That land is divided into three strips, for the priest and the temple, then the Levites and the city.
This is not the pattern or order in which Christ experienced His suffering. It is the experience of the church after Christ, the period of Ezekiel's temple.

A census is conducted to determine how to distribute the land. Since the distribution is equal it means that the tribes are all the same size. The tribes who are sealed in Revelation 7 represent the only time when all tribes are the same size. So this is a picture of the last days. The vision divides the land into three sections that are similar to the division and fate of the tribes of Israel.

Law Joshua Distributes The Land At Shiloh
Shiloh Comes. The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a ruler's staff from between his feet until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. (Genesis 49: 10)
How can the sceptre be taken away from Judah if David will have a descendant forever on his throne? Since Christ is also from the tribe of Judah through David, the promise is still kept because He is the King of kings.
Shiloh is a city in the north. Several important events happened there that are related to the final generation. Ezekiel is clearly the model for the last days, and although Joshua occurred thousands of years before it still has value for the people who are about to enter the Promised Land. Ezekiel represents the order in which the church come to a knowledge of God. Joshua represents the order in which the final inheritance is distributed.

Shiloh is now a person, not a place. Jesus Christ became this Shiloh because the events surrounding His appearance mimic the events at Shiloh. Israel, the first house of God was abandoned for another nation who obeyed Christ. The inheritance was redistributed to the seven last churches.

Law Migration: The Law Of The Order Of Travel And The Final History Of The Church
The law of the temple specifies that the people should only travel in one direction and enter and exit from different gates. This is a very important concept because it unlocks some of the symbolism of prophecy.
Prince in the East. When the prince enters, he shall go in by way of the porch of the gate and go out the same way.
People Travel North and South. But when the people of the land come before the Lord at the appointed feasts,
Southern Migration. he who enters by way of the north gate to worship shall go out by way of the south gate.
Northern Migration. And he who enters by the south gate shall go out by way of the north gate.
One Way Travel. No one shall return by way of the gate by which he entered but shall go straight out.
(Ezekiel 46: 8-9)
We will follow the rules of travel and focus on the north to south journey and the journey back from south to north.

The north to south route in the camp layout is a history of the people of God. It seems to be based on another pattern embedded in the campsites of the tribes. They seem to represent the three great phases of the history of all Israel. We will look at the events from right to left or east to west because this is the order in which the Jews wrote and this is the order of the work of God. Then we will follow the travel rules of going north to south.

The East-West History Of The Christ (From Heaven To Earth)
The east to west route in the camp layout is a brief history of the Prince of the Covenant. There are three distinct phases.

Ezekiel has no detailed history of the Christ from east to west. His pattern in the gates of the city only shows how this coming of Christ will affect the tribes. He comes from the east to remove our sins and lives with us in the west.
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103: 12)

After the seven tribes in the north turn around and flee from Babylon, they must pass through the holy portion before they become the last five tribes. The Holy Portion consists of three groups: the priests, the Levites and the inhabitants of the city. But let us look at two parallel prophecies before we see what happens to them in the temple and the Holy Portion.

Israel Becomes A Holy Nation
When the church in the north flees south, they spiritually become several groups as they become children of God. They arrive as sons of Judah to the Holy Land. They become princes from the house of David, priests from Zadok and Levi and inhabitants of Jerusalem. And they are holy by law.
This is the law of the house: its entire area on top of the mountain, all around shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house. (Ezekiel 43: 12)

At this point we will pause to look at another prophecy that is being fulfilled at this time. The sealing is occurring and Revelation 7: 4-8 lists the order in which the twelve tribes were sealed. Zechariah is ambiguous about who is the leader and who is saved first. Is it Judah or the House of David? We can look at the marching order rules and the view of the church in this period to get a definitive answer.

City The Exits And Entrances
The Twelve Gates Of The City
This arrangement is not the same as the order of the tribes around the sanctuary. This is a symbol of how Christ builds and fills His city before they continue on their journey south.
The strange configuration of the city gates now makes sense. It is a diagram of where the tribes will be at the Second Coming when Jesus comes from the east and goes west. These are the people that are the city of God.
For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. (Matthew 24: 27)
Christ comes from the east and meets a church that is polarized along very distinct lines. From the north and south, He will gather a church that is afflicted and persecuted and suffering wrath and death at the hands of the wicked. Then He leaves in the west.

The Six Gates Of The Temple
Revelation 11: 1-2 says that the city and the outer court will be given to the wicked to trample on. But at some point the wicked man must also take over the temple because the prophecies indicate that a usurper, whose number is 666, will sit in this temple pretending to be God and it was already in existence at the time of the apostles. Look at the number of sixes in the holy compound.

The Number 666 and the Antichrist. This number can be seen in the value of the measurements as you approach the compound. With the border, the total size is 600. The height of the gate is 60 and several structures in the gate measure six. The reason this is important is because the hand and forehead on the human and the doorpost and gates on a house are where the good or evil marks are placed.
The size of the land without the border is 500 by 500. It indicates that this is a sanctuary under judgment.

Five is the total number of covenant warnings given before the sanctuary is destroyed. With a 50 cubit border, the size allocated to the temple is 600 by 600. It is an indication of the amount of time given for reflection after the judgment. Therefore that space and time still belong to the judgment of the temple. So final judgment begins at five and ends at six. When the space-time reaches 600, the temple will be taken over by the Antichrist and by the enemy.
The Man of Sin. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day [the second coming of Jesus] shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is worshipped;
In the Temple as God. so that he as god sits in the temple of God [the church], showing himself that he is god.
Restrained. And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
Revealed. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming.
(2 Thessalonians 2: 3-4, 6-8)

666: A Temple Under Judgment
All indications are that this is the temple under judgment in Revelation 11. The space outside the temple will be corrupted by the world, but the temple and people belong to God. This temple will also be taken over and corrupted by the Antichrist. There have been several indications that the sanctuary and people will be corrupted. The symbols are that our body is the temple that will be violated and corrupted.

The conclusion we reach is not that the number 666 is evil, but the evil one will take over the church when is has this measurement. We will reach the time of the mark of the beast when the following is true.

Repeat Repetition and Enlargement
This north to south journey of the righteous is prophecied and typified in many stories. In this journey, the south is both the place where the righteous find refuge, and the pursuing wicked will be slaughtered. It can be seen as both good and bad because evil corrupts the righteous there. The center is the dwelling place of God. But evil can also corrupt the Holy Place. The north is the land of the evil usurper who wants to replace the righteous King of the North on Mount Zion. It is never seen as a place of good on earth. It is always a place that the righteous must leave.
